Home sleep testing - ResMed Middle-East

Home sleep testing

A sleep study — also called a respiratory polygraphy (PG)— can now be done from the comfort of a patient’s home. During the polygraphy, your patient’s respiratory effort, pulse, oxygen saturation, nasal flow and snoring are monitored to assess if the patient suffers from sleep-disordered breathing or sleep apnoea. Traditional polysomnographies (PSG), done overnight in specialised sleep clinics, monitor neural activity (EEG), eye movements (EOG), muscle activity or skeletal muscle activation (EMG) and heart rhythm (ECG).

ResMed provides your patients with an accurate, easy-to-use tool for screening sleep apnoea: ApneaLinkTM Air. In a study that compared data for 70 subjects including normal patients, those with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) and those with CSR, it was determined that ApneaLink provided reliable screening comparable to a PSG. Automatic analysis was compared with manual scoring and the results were the following:

  • Sensitivity: 87% (75 – 99)
  • Specificity: 95% (88 – 100)
  • Positive likelihood ratio: 17.0
  • Negative likelihood ratio: 0.14

The night of the sleep test, the patient places the sensors on designated parts of the body to start the recording. Our ApneaLink Air home sleep testing device detects apnoeas, hypopnoeas, flow limitation, snoring and blood oxygen saturation. It also calculates the probability of Cheyne-Stokes respiration (CSR) breathing patterns within the recording, allowing for an accurate differentiation between Obstructive and Central apnoeas.

Your patient’s results can then be further analysed the next day at a clinic, hospital or sleep lab. The ApneaLink report provides detailed signal analysis and streamlines the care process for healthcare professionals. The results from the ResMed home sleep testing devices are also compatible with AirViewTM, a comprehensive diagnostic software solution for sleep facilities..

Home sleep testing is thus made easy with our compact, cost-effective, reliable testing devices. Learn more about the following solution:
